As we begin new projects in 2026 we look back at s As we begin new projects in 2026 we look back at some of the hundreds of people who took part in our projects in 2025: there were so many exciting community workshops across London and beyond. It is really important for us to celebrate the people that were at the heart of our 2025 mosaics. We would like to thank everybody who took part in a project last year: all the participants, all the sponsors, the funders, the volunteers, the Artyface team and everybody who sends in photographs/selfies and takes the time to send us their appreciation of the artworks in the public realm .
Heart is at the very core of all the projects that Artyface Community Art creates. Inclusion of all ages and abilities is super important and in this reel we celebrate just a fraction of those people that created mosaics with us in 2025. It was a joy to make this reel as there were just so many lovely inspiring and joyful photographs to choose from!
We are very excited about 2026 and working with many more of you in the near future.
The Artyface team wishes you all a very healthy, happy, joyful and creative 2026!

As the year hurdles to an end, it’s lovely to look As the year hurdles to an end, it’s lovely to look back at all the community mosaic projects we have put up in 2025. There are lots of exciting new projects including work that celebrates the newly named overground lines in London and also more mosaics for the Beaconsfield Art Trail. Water For Life was this years annual Fox Year 6 project. We completed some beautiful private commissions. The final 3 Bedford Road nature mosaics went up in E17 as well as a stunning William Morris inspired addition to the Walthamstow School for Girls wall of mosaics, for Emily. We would also like to wish you all a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year. Also we would like to send a huge enormous ‘thank you’ to all that take part in our projects: the participants that make their tiles with us, everyone that sends us messages and photos, all the funders, donors, supporters and volunteers - there’s such a huge process involved in all the work, we couldn’t make them without you all! I also need to give a massive thank you to all the Artyface team- you are all so skilled and hugely appreciated by me and Artyface couldn’t create such wonderful legacy projects without you all!

Italy is always inspirational, one of my favourite Italy is always inspirational, one of my favourite cities in the world. I’m very lucky to have wonderful friends in Venice and I’ve been visiting for over 30 years. My son and I love to meander and boat hop, getting lost and finding art, mosaics, inspiration and beauty everywhere. The Guggenheim Gallery is one of our favourites. If you get the chance to visit, jump at it! Venice is such a beautiful city, I can’t recommend it enough. Of course I bought the beautiful gold, silver and blue tiles from Orsoni in the Jewish Quarter, peeked at the furnaces there and soaked up all that luscious colour! We enjoyed wandering around Murano, buying glass mosaic tiles and taking in the atmosphere, enjoying the Autumn sunshine and revelling in their gastronomic culture too. Next year I’m returning to walk some of the Venice Marathon with my good friends. If you’ve any personal recommendations please do comment and share! Already looking forward to the next trip. Arrivaderci Venezia!

This is a lovely private commission, made for a bu This is a lovely private commission, made for a building that used to be an important music studio. Located on the iconic Notting Hill street, Farm Place. It was set up in the 60s by Bucks Music. Bowie,T.Rex and many other musicians recorded here. The mosaic is on an exterior wall so the public can enjoy it 24/7. The beautiful design, created between the client and Catherine Clark, with a little input from myself and Rebecca Tyndall, echoes the gorgeous cherry blossoms that are a feature of this street and the history of the road name , Farm Place: there is lots of pretty local wildlife and nature. The Tree of Life went up this week in Beaconsfiel The Tree of Life went up this week in Beaconsfield on the Fitzwilliams Centre- part of the St Mary’s and All Saints Church in Beaconsfield Old Town. 100s of clay tiles were decorated and pressed in to at workshops with groups that meet in the Centre : with toddler groups, with AA groups, with community members of all ages and abilities. The wonderful volunteers and committee of Creative Partnerships Beaconsfield shared clay skills and the tiles that Maud and team had provided, carefully organised and chosen to fit in with the final design. These mini- masterpieces made by the community in Beaconsfield were lovingly trimmed, dried, fired, glazed and fired again to 1280 degrees. Then they were assembled to create this Tree of Life that teems with love and community. The congregation of the church chose the words to go in the roots and Maud carefully constructed the roots in her home studio, making sure that all the words were included. With the addition of a few native British birds and some rich life in the soil and the flowers, we think the tree looks fantastic on its wall. Funnily enough it looks like it’s been there for ages because it fits the space- which is a sign of a job well done! It’s an honour to create legacy artworks with a community for a public space and know that they live on sparkling and bringing joy to people day after day 24/7 for all to enjoy. Big thanks to everybody who made tiles, to all the funders, to all the Creative Partnerships ,Beaconsfield committee members and volunteers for making this happen. Also huge thanks to all the Artyface team, to all our donors and sponsors and everybody who helps in every way that they do. Special thanks to Suzan and Jon for going all the way to Beaconsfield with some clay tiles when I couldn’t do it - thank you. Also to Catherine for the wonderful designing and redrawing, and designing again. Also to Rebecca for her awesome mosaic skills, to Laimons for all the teenie tiny tiles and cheering us on and to Ruby for making this reel.

Exciting news! We’ve been busy making beautiful ti Exciting news! We’ve been busy making beautiful tiles for a series of beautiful mosaic roundels, going up at 4 stations to celebrate 3 of the 6 newly named Overground lines in London .

We’ve had the honour of coordinating a project across three of the newly named lines: Mildmay, Suffragette and Weaver. Partners are Arriva Rail London, @frarchitects, Vistry, @trinitybuoywharf
There will be 4 small roundels at Bethnal Green for the Weaver Line station, one large roundel at Barking Riverside celebrating the Suffragette Line, and a series of three roundels at Central Acton and South Acton stations celebrating the Mildmay Line.

All the roundels are full of celebrations and references to the history of the new names and where they came from. Also the mosaics are packed full of words and imagery about the areas and their local community: people, places, events, wildlife and history all come together to make a roundel that can be read in so many different ways- individual to the onlooker.

Workshops to make tiles took place at Central Acton and Barking Riverside stations alongside their Meet the Manager session. Anyone passing could stop and make a tile.

We also ran workshops at the local comprehensive school Riverside in Barking, at the local Primary Stuart Hedlam in Bethnal Green. We worked with the foodbank community at the Good Shephard in E2 as well as City Harvest volunteers and staff in Acton.
Quotes from a few participants:
“It felt amazing to leave our mark on something permanent, like we’re part of the community’s story and my voice matters”
“I chose words that remind me of my friends and where I’m from. It’s cool to see that turned into art!”
“It was exciting because now, every time we go to the station, we’ll feel like we’re a part of it”

Water For Life is the 5th mosaic arch that we have Water For Life is the 5th mosaic arch that we have made with year 6 at Fox Primary School, Nottinghill, London. We have created 1 a year for the past 5 years. The themes are all environmental and chosen by the school. Year 6 start the designs in the autumn and Maud and Catherine take many ideas from their drawings to come up with an overall design. Pupils then make ceramic tiles which Maud fires and glazes. All the border tiles are made by Year 6 with messages about water, the sea, the river, rain and watery themes. All the words in the border at the bottom were also chosen by the pupils. We assembled the mosaic in the studio over the winter and took the mosaic in to them after they had finish their SATS (exams). They got to mosaic with the team and gave their artwork the finishing touches. It’s now up on the wall for all to see in a public space: a gift to the school and the local community before they move on to secondary school. You can visit these mosaic in Kensington Place W8 7PP whenever you like - they are there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They add sparkle and colour to a plain brick wall and celebrate the schools ethos as well as the farmers market that’s held in the school playground every Saturday. The school also has a special roof garden and beehives and a living roof. These mosaics reflect this environmental conscious community. #mosaic ##streetart #publicrealm #mosaic #art #craft #make #london# #londonart #artist #community #publicart #clay #ceramic #water #artistsofinstagram #makeachange #communityart @ardex.uk @trinitybuoywharf @travisperkinsco @botzglazes @reb_arts @esme_orssich @tigerseyemosaic @vivatiling @orsoni @grinbergslaimons @rubyhelen_makes
These beautiful butterflies and moths are now immo These beautiful butterflies and moths are now immortalised in handmade sparkling mosaics around the entrance to Gallions Primary School in Newham, East London, inspiring the pupils and the school community every day. One panel celebrates three local butterflies, another three local moths and a third mosaic is a colourful painted lady butterfly welcome sign, also a local butterfly. The three butterflies are a Cabbage White, a Peacock and a Comma . The moths are a Cinnabar, Jersey Tiger and a Common Emerald.
The children and staff made beautiful border tiles and created drawings and poetry about moths, butterflies and pollinators. The whole school planted lots of seeds to grow flowers and plants that pollinating insects adore.
The project was kindly sponsored by L&Q Homes. Artyface would like to also give a massive thanks to the staff at the school, the parents who came in to help make mosaics and all the children and community that took part.
Also I would like to give a massive thanks to all the Artyface team that were amazing as always, too many to mention but especially to Catherine, Laimons, Rebecca, Chara, Ruby and others. Also to Sharon of @vivatiling for putting them up with me. Huge thanks to @steven.aldred.3 for the beautiful mirror tiles. Very happy that the 10 Lost Words/Local Wildlife M Very happy that the 10 Lost Words/Local Wildlife Mosaics are all installed on the Bedford Road Mosaic Trail in E17. These 10 beautiful works of art are now sparkling in the sunshine and rain 24/7 for all to see and enjoy.
These 10 mosaics (chosen by the community) are not only beautiful and colourful, but also educational and full of rich details and textures. Catherine Clark designed 10 beautiful compositions based on the 10 local wildlife themes and it is wonderful to see them all sparkly and at home in their chosen locations. Many of our mosaics celebrate wildlife and all of our mosaics have community at their heart, incorporating community handmade tiles. It was very interesting to learn that we are losing words because we’re not using them. Just like we are losing wildlife by not caring for it. These mosaics were inspired by a wonderful book, Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris. I do hope you get over to do the Bedford Road Mosaic Trail and appreciate their creations, before or after nipping in to neighbouring Lloyd Park to enjoy the abundant nature there, as well as the creativity of William Morris in the gallery set in the park. It’s a lovely mosaic trail for adults and children. Massive thanks to all that took part and especially to Angela for orchestrating it, Aiden for putting the frames up and the whole Artyface team. #community #mosaic #e17 #walthamstow #words #lostwords #nature #wildlife #park #local #bat #newt #rowan #butterfly #bramble #mushroom #funghi #damselfly #bee #dandelion #goldfinch

Displayed on Church Hill E17 alongside over 10 others, all celebrating Epping forest, William Morris and the Arts & Crafts. @morrisgallery is only a 15 minute walk from these mosaics.
This new addition was made to honour the life of Emily who was a pupil at Walthamstow School for Girls.

Thank you to Emily’s mum Renata for fundraising and commissioning the project, also to Walthamstow School for Girls and London Borough of Waltham Forest for their financial contributions and support. Bedford Road Mosaic Trail, Walthamstow: Lost Words Bedford Road Mosaic Trail, Walthamstow: Lost Words and Local Wildlife - ten mosaics

In urban environments (like London) we spend less time connected to nature. This is an issue for so many reasons, not least because we will not enjoy and care for what we don’t know.
“There’s all kinds of nature right on our doorstep if we stop and look,” explains Walthamstow resident Angela McDermott. We are also losing some words to describe nature as we use them less. The words and nature depicted in these ten mosaics aim to illustrate, educate and intrigue as well as celebrate our ecosystems and biodiversity.
This trail of ten mosaics is on Bedford Road E17, adjacent to Lloyd Park and the William Morris Gallery. Just like real wildlife, you will need to walk and explore to see what you can spot.

Thank you to generous funders William Morris Big Local, London Borough of Waltham Forest and to Aiden Garroty for supporting the installation. Also big thanks to all who took part and all the Artyface supporters and volunteers, donors and cheerleaders. This colourful and site specific mosaic project is a resident-led community art project that was begun in 2023 and completed in 2025. Inspired by The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane & Jackie Morris and the National Park City movement

It is the most recent addition to over ten mosaic on Church Hill E17 all celebrating William Morris and the Arts & Crafts. This mosaic was made to celebrate the life of Emily who was a pupil at Walthamstow
School for Girls and went on to study fashion. The image her family chose for the design is a reminder of the many happy bike rides and walks they took in the forest. Emily’s family and friends made all the blue tiles in the surround, pressing meaningful objects in and carving personal designs. The photographic transfers are images from her sketchbook she was a very talented artist .
