Wonderful to officially ‘open’ the Worthing Rail Station mosaics, looking stunning as part of the Station Approach improvements. Great to see the glazes and details sparkling in the spring sunshine. Here is a lovely quote from Adam Stennet, Engineer and Site Manager from Landbuild who these up for in situ for us -

Saturday tiling work for the last @words4belonging

Saturday tiling work for the last @words4belonging mosaic with @neeladolezalova. This ‘You Are Welcome Here’ mosaic will be on display at an exhibition @richmixlondon from the 11th to 13th of April (11th 2pm-9 , 12th 10-10, 13th 10am-7 pm ) before it finds its forever home in Gants Hill.

Come by on Sat the 12th, drop-in between 2pm to 4pm for a community mosaic workshop at Rich Mix. Bring sentimental small things to press into clay for a top secret Bethnal Green project - jewellery, toys, lego, small leaves and seed heads, textured buttons, desk objects like paper clips- anything that might leave an impression when pressed into and lifted off clay. Children must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Proceeds from the @words4belonging exhibition will go towards future community arts and mosaic projects. Come and buy a print or two! 😁 roundel mugs also for sale and maybe some Globe Road postcards…

These 4 beautiful community made mosaic roundels are UP! I haven’t had the chance to see them in their forever home yet, so big thanks to friends for sending me pictures! Please do keep tagging me in your selfies - I especially love it when someone finds the tile they made and pings us a pic! Gorgeous seaside and Southern Rail colours, humorous and poignant personal tiles from 100s of participants of all ages and abilities. Photographic transfers using images taken by pupils from St Andrews Secondary School and some of my photos of Worthing, applied to tiles in a workshop with amazing artist and friend Alice Mara. I love these legacy mosaics and I can’t wait to go and see them! We loved making these 4 mosaics for @ballymore cel

We loved making these 4 mosaics for @ballymore celebrating the centenary of Lyle Park as well as championing local wildlife. All 4 of these birds are local and you may well see them on the River Thames and its environs. We worked with Royal Wharf Primary School near Lyle Park #E16 . Pupils made tiles for us to fire, glaze and include. Other community members made tiles at workshops run by the wonderful @jennifer_becomms in summer ‘24. We are super pleased with these beautiful birds, immortalised in clay and glazed to sparkle in the sunshine and in all weathers for passers-by on the riverside Royal Wharf Walk #e16 . As always we used the best products - @ardex.uk Ardex X77s adhesive and FL Cast Iron grout. Bespoke stainless steel frames and @marmoxukltd exterior cement board. Huge thanks to all that took part, and to the Artyface team that worked so hard on this #legacy #art: Catherine Clark, @reb_arts @grinbergslaimons @esme_orssich @tigerseyemosaic and to @steven.aldred.3 and Smiles Glass E17 for the beautiful mirror tiles . I can’t believe it’s almost the end of 2024!

While we put the finishing touches on our final 2024 projects, we give a huge thank you to everyone for another year of supporting Artyface. It was a big old year (professionally and personally!) celebrating our silver anniversary and getting 12 projects delivered to happy clients and community. We love what we do and it is an honour to create with the you all- thousands annually - all ages and abilities, something we pride ourselves on and is at the heart of our art ❤️

Our mosaic roundel mugs make a great 🎁 (Our Mugs + @terryschocolateofficial make a terrific combo) and @perkyblenders @milk_stjames and @walthamstowpumphousemuseum all sell them for £14 a pop.

This was a really lovely project to make. It was to help Year 6s (10-11 year olds) transition to Year 7 (11-12) . Funded and masterminded by Safaplace, we were asked to work with the year 6 in Grasmere Primary School. Year 7s from the secondary school visited them and they worked together. It was a lovely opportunity for the younger children to meet the year 7s, to talk about their feelings and aspirations and what they thought Secondary School might be and what they were hoping it would be. It was also an opportunity for them to meet older pupils they would see when they began their new school. Pupils made their words and impressions in their tiles, their mini-masterpieces, which we then trimmed and glazed and assembled into a brightly coloured mosaic. The sparkly mural transformed a dark wall into a thing of beauty and interest. We used a lot of mirror so they can see themselves too! When you look closely you can read their kind, funny, aspirational and heartwarming words. We were honoured to be a part of this project. The new Year 7 s are really happy to see their work up on the wall. We had lots of lovely people saying happy enthusiastic things about their mosaic.

“I was at University Station on Wednesday and I saw a couple mesmerised by the mosaic. They were there for ages smiling and taking photos of it so I approached them to get their thoughts. These 2 beautiful station roundels have gone up in Birmingham this year. They were commissioned to celebrate the Commonwealth Games 2023.

Perry Barr and University Stations were built as part of the Games legacy. Artyface is extremely proud to have been able to create these community made mosaics as part of this legacy.

Commissioned by West Midlands Rail Executive and working closely with Ayannah Wilson, Artyface Community Art collaborated with libraries, schools, the University and local organisations. All ages and abilities were included which is the bedrock of our projects. We involved students, commuters, passers-by, primary school pupils, library users and librarians , Big Local and many more. We love the part of the process where we make clay tiles with 100s of people because it means the artwork is a meaningful legacy for the local community.

With our extensive experience delivering projects like this for Arriva Rail London , Transport for London, GOVIA THAMESLINK RAILWAY LIMITED, Southern Rail, Ballymore, Local Councils, architects and building organisations, we have developed our techniques so we can work with communities everywhere. What better way to cheer ourselves up than to spotlight these very important members of the Artyface team. Whether by rolling, sitting or stepping on, examining or checking if the tiles you make are cat proof…these two felines never fail to get involved. All it takes is for the paper to be laid out for them to scamper and paw over it all.

Brilliant day making #clay tiles with all of #Year8 pupils at St Andrew’s C of E High School for the #worthingrailroundels for the #stationapproach project. Huge thanks to all the pupils and staff. We can’t wait to see these mini-masterpieces trimmed, fired and glazed and assembled into the 4 roundels at the front of Worthing Rail Station. Amazing @alicemaraceramics will go in to take an assembly with Yesr 9s next and then work with pupils who sent in photos to make photographic transfer tiles too. These #mosaics are just a tiny glimpse of the #publicart we have created with #community at its ❤️… Our mosaics are in #London, #Birmingham, #Beaconsfield and currently we are creating for #Worthing. It’s not an exaggeration to say our public #art touches million of lives daily.

Established 25 years ago in 1999 by Maud, Artyface Community Art creates beautiful, durable, legacy public art, involving over 4000 people in creating the mosaics with us every year.

We have been based at the wonderful @trinitybuoywharf for 19 years, as well a home studio in Walthamstow.

I am so happy that Artyface continues to be busy and that we, as a team, can create so many marvellous public mosaics and work with so many of you! The past 25 years have been full of highs and lows. In fact each day is a rollercoaster. I couldn’t have achieved this without all the helpers, commissioners , everyone who has championed us and also all the talented Artyface team. In particular, Catherine Clark who has worked with me for over 22 years, and @reb_arts who has worked alongside us for at least 15 and @grinbergslaimons who has volunteered with us for 5+ years! And so many more in the team, coming and going - flying high in their own careers. I feel proud of our role in mentoring and teaching many young artists- most recently @esme_orssich .
I am proud that I was mentored by Prince’s Youth Trust 30 years ago who supported me as a fledgling artist before so moved to London and set up Artyface.
We aim to continue making the highest quality community art for many years to come.

One of the highlights of the job is seeing communities with the work via selfies and photos so please keep them coming ! Also knowing there are thousands of your mini-masterpieces that make up all the mosaics!

Such a wonderful #communitycentre The love, care and kindness shown to all and felt by those who find fun and connections here, shines through in this ceramic mosaic . We absolutely loved working on this ode to the local area, rich in history, people, past and present, activities, feelings and events. Photos taken as it was getting late but still it glows! We had such a successful day yesterday making clay tiles with over 50 members of the Worthing community in a pop up workshop at the amazing @colonnadehse !

Thank you so much to the team at Colonnade house for hosting us and to everyone who came down !

The best part is that this is just the beginning …. Next we are creating tiles with 150 Year 8 students from St Andrews School. If you would like to contribute to this legacy project, please comment any words/phrases/sentiments/local people/history/places/events that you associate with worthing !

Dreamt up early 2023, clay workshops with community began summer last year with the amazing @rhiannonscott1973 and the Creative Partnerships Beaconsfield team beginning their crucial fundraising, liasing and delivery of our workshops with the community there. With so many to thank, I will start with Sharon the vicar for getting permissions, Clodagh and Evan from Geometric Tiling for donating their time and skills today to put this #mosaic up, everyone that made a tile, donors, sponsors, the artyface team and everyone that has helped along the way, #thankyou . oh Walthamstow this is why I love you so. And everyone else that came from afar - bumped into friends who came from further afield . Thank you. There was mixed messaging about staying away from the counter event to allow police to see the troublemakers but there was no trouble … this time. Keep showing up. I have just spent days in critical care with my elderly mum and all the nurses and doctors, the surgeon, , porters and cleaners, nearly ALL were immigrants, first generation, and doing an amazing job. Without whom we would be lost. Thank you to all who help make our country better and more interesting. thank you to all who work hard to keep this country functioning! Perry Barr rail station has their gorgeous community made mosaic up at the new #perrybarr station. Built to celebrate the #commonwealthgames we were super proud to get commissioned to make this legacy artwork with the local community. As always we worked with hundreds of local residents of ages and abilities to make the highest quality public art. Workshops took place in the local library, in the station itself as well as other community venues. Huge thanks to everyone involved especially to those that ran the clay workshops that we delivered. a sneak peek at my garden studio- the work has three studios dedicated to the projects- demanding mosaics hey! Listening to @glastofest on @bbc6music while I potter , unload bisque firing, re pot a few plants, and get the biscuit fired tiles ready for glaze firing. I would have loved to have been at the festival but my knee is still very unhappy since a slip on a wet path in November and to top it all I got a horrid flu cough cold and wouldn’t have been match fit. Glasto is a marathon. So I’m enjoying it vicariously through the #radio and #tv and resting/working and doing my physio exercises. I’ve been going to #glastonbury since aged 7 so it’s in my DNA- I’ve worked there in many jobs, I’ve slipped in years past and lately I’ve been lucky enough to be able to buy tickets 🎫. Apt to put up this glorious mosaic sun on the Summer Solstice. This year it’s caught me by surprise as it’s usually 21st June. Sending Solstice blessings to you . This mosaic was 9 months in the making: the annual Year 6 mosaic this time is #sustainable #food and celebrates the #farmersmarket that is held here at the weekend. It’s a beautiful design, drawn by Catherine Clark, an amazing artist who is key in our team. Embellished by me as I made more and more of clay fruit and vegetables, sunflowers and bees and added the sun. The apple in the middle is Catherine’s genius . All the other handmade tiles were made by this year 6 with a few from pupils in 2023 that worked well and didn’t fit into last years mosaic. sparkly new mosaic up in the corner of Church Hill and Woodbury Road in #e17 #walthamsow #london. Starley , the #inventor of the modern #bicycle as we know it, was born and lived on Church Hill. It’s believed his dad was the gardener at the big manor house where Rectory Road and Howard Road and a huge area now are. The factory he worked at was on #coventry but he was raised on Church Hill! new #mosaic is up and looking like it’s always been there! Funny how that happens. Celebrating the inventor of the modern #bicycle #jkstarley who was born and lived in #churchhill #e17 #walthamstow . The white flowers and leaves were made by pupils at @walthamstowsfg and the blue tiles were made by the communities from all over- tiles that have exceed use in other mosaics but are beautiful- maybe you will spot one of your tiles in this #community made mosaic?! Amazing stories and features - photographic tiles made by the wonderful @alicemaraceramics , also born and bred in Walthamstow, including the #oldcinema and #fountains st the #townhall @lbwalthamforest that no longer exist in the old fountain form! The #maud stamp from the old club night at #mirthmarvelandmaud that also no longer exists, kindly given to me by John the awesome doorman on the last night it was open. Rich in history . Pupils made tiles for us to fire, glaze and include. Other community members made tiles at workshops run by the wonderful @jennifer_becomms in summer ‘24. We are super pleased with these beautiful birds, immortalised in clay and glazed to sparkle in the sunshine and in all weathers for passers-by on the riverside Royal Wharf Walk #e16 . As always we used the best products - @ardex.uk Ardex X77s adhesive and FL Cast Iron grout. Bespoke stainless steel frames and @marmoxukltd exterior cement board.
