Maria Fidelis Convent School with Specialist Art Status, Camden, London
To celebrate Maris Fidelis achieving Specialist Art Status they invited Maud Milton and the team to come in to do an Arts Residency,
to make some bespoke mosaics celebrating the multi-cultured school through fabrics from around the world. Inspired by The Quilt exhibition
at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Jill Tattersal ran drawing workshops where pupils drew from the schools extensive fabric collection,
as well as books and secondary sources that Artyface took in. The pupils works of art were then collaged into a design worked on by Maud,
Catherine Clarke, Jill Tattersall and Leona Matuszczak. For over a week and a half in July 2010 the Artyface team of Maud, Clem Riches, Catherine and Leona worked with hundreds of pupils, helped for a week by 4 dedicated 6th-formers, and teachers, cleaners and many other visitors popped in to help and many caught the mosaic-bug! Workshops also took place with neighbouring community groups: Hopscotch Asian Women's Group, Age Concern, New Horizons and Somers Town Youth Centre. One of the panels will be going up permanantly in a public alleyway that leads to the Community Centre and the others will be going up in the school playground. The opening ceremony will be in the Autumn Term 2010. |

"I have really enjoyed this project of mosaicing. There were very complicated
parts and there were tricky bits. I told my mum about the project and she came to the school
and worked with me after-school one day. Catherine, Clem, Maud, Leona and Eva, many more
teachers and pupils helped out too." Simona Year 8 |

"Maria Fidelis were lucky enough to be taking part in a brilliant
mosaic project. We used a wide range of tiles from any colour of the rainbow. I would spend my
lunch or break glueing tiles down or peeling and preparing them. Everyday, when I came back,
the project would have built up and progressed more. It was great to take part in such
an interesting project that will soon be on our school wall. With help from Artyface
we have made a masterpiece which we hope will be in the school for a long time to come.
I am glad I took part in such a fun project, thank you to everyone." Nievh Year 8 |

"I thought it was a great idea to decorate and brighten up our
school since it is a bit of a dull place. We came and took part everyday at
break and lunchtimes, and the artists were all extremely kind and supportive
throughout the whole project. I thought it was a terrific experience." Emma Year 8 |

"What a raving success the mosaic project was. All of the service users expressed
how much they enjoyed the project and would love to do something like that again in the future." Patricia Figueroa, Time Bank Administrator, Origin Housing
